Shrink, hide and embody technologies and incorporate play within interactions. In this case, music was used to encourage social activity.

Task
Musical Chairs was the end result of a design analysis on the element of PLAY. The task was to create a prototype of a conceptual piece that would create an opportunity for interaction.
How we did it
As part of the process, my group came up with information models, which I visually interpreted, to concentrate on the idea of embedding play into the interaction. We then came up with the technologies to be used, photocell sensors, Arduino and MAX Msp programmed by my good friend Yoshi. Music by Derek/Garageband.
Use
When a chair is occupied, it will play one instrument as part of a song. The more chairs people use, the more lush the composition of the song is. It's meant to be placed within the context of a coffee shop, wherein people tend to isolate themselves with their own books or laptops.
